Woohoo! It works!
14 Nov | 05I got Tcl macros added this morning. Now I push one button and it knows the state of the receiver and magically does the right thing! All those extra remotes all over the table can be put somewhere else.

Soooo close
13 Nov | 05I got the input control working on the receiver and managed to come up with a coding system that matches the X10 MouseRemote enough that when I push the buttons while it's in PC mode I get different codes. Reprogrammed my TiVo remote so it sends a power code for a brand I don't own. Now I have 2 macros in my daemon so when I push Power on the TiVo remote, the receiver and the TV turn on and the input changes to the TiVo. Caller ID on my TV!
13 Nov | 05Well that was pretty easy. I used my web interface hack to display a message as the basis, and hacked up a little shell script that my answer system can call. Simple! So now my TV will display the number via the OSD of the receiver, and the cable box will scroll the number by (for when the TV isn't on). Awesome!

Scroll a message on my cable box
12 Nov | 05I made a quick&dirty hack to connect to my entertainment center management daemon. It will let you send a message which will scroll across the front of my cable box. It'll also display the first 16 characters on my TV screen (if the TV is on). Click here to send a message It's actually not really a cable box anymore.
