I recently dug out my Apple IIgs which had been in storage for many years. For the most part it worked fine, but the eject mechanism on the 3.5" floppy drives had siezed up. Unfortunately I found this out the hard way. After trying to eject the floppy a couple of times, the motor just completely stopped working. I took the floppy drive apart to find that the sliding metal pieces were very sticky. I dug into the eject motor only to discover this: I disassembled the other floppy and...

I always enjoy shopping at the dollar store, you never know what kind of neat things you're going to find. Today I found this 12V to USB adapter! For a buck I had to get it and see if it would really work. It has two USB ports but they aren't wired up identically. The 'A' port can provide up to 1 amp while the 'B' port is only 0.5 amps. Not iPhone compatible Unfortunately neither port works with an iPhone. The iPhone doesn't see the 'B' port at all and...

Vitaliy discovered that if it was switched on, then the power cord removed and re-inserted it would work! It still had life in it and wants to play some games! What was strange was that as soon as you turn it off and try to turn it back on it wouldn't come up. The only way to make it work was by jamming in the power cord with the 2600 switched on. Thought maybe...

In the cabinet under my microwave I store all the plastic containers and every time I want to find a container the right size I have to dig around on my hands and knees, all the while having containers spilling all over on the floor. Then finding a matching lid is just as much work! After my success of building the kitchen cabinet for the office , I decided it was finally time to make some pull out bins for home. I had been putting it off because I was worried about getting the dimensions...

After walking off and forgetting about my soldering iron enough times, I decided I needed to get some kind of timer that would automatically shut it off. I did a lot of searching thinking that something like this should already exist, but I couldn't find anything. I found power strips and little timers where you could set the time of day to turn on and off, but nothing with a simple wind up count down timer. Having seen wind up timers installed in bathrooms I checked the hardware store...
